Job Description

The Director of Engineering will serve as a key leader of the executive team for the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa.  Reporting directly to the Resort Manager, this position will ensure that our resort and all of its Engineering functions are maintained in excellent condition at all times. This person will supervise a team of dedicated Engineering professionals including painters, mechanical engineers, preventative maintenance technicians, room-call specialists and others. The DOE will provide a quality experience for the associates, ensuring that training and mentoring is a regular part of our team's work life, coaching associates to meet Omni's guest service standards as well as ensuring technical excellence at all times. The DOE will manage every aspect of our Capital Improvement projects and renovations and consistently strive to make sure high we earn high guest satisfaction scores. The DOE must be a technical expert at diagnosing problems and finding solutions and have sufficient technical expertise to guide and mentor other skilled engineers. Additionally, the DOE will work closely with the building's condo association to ensure their needs are met.

Responsibilities

 

  • Coordinate and operate, in an economic, legal and safe manner, all R&M & Utility expenses.
  • Managing Birchstreet for all R&M expenses, participate in all month-end financial process and forecasting.
  • Inspect physical plant and equipment, and shall supervise maintenance and preventative maintenance program of that area.
  • Supervise a comprehensive maintenance and preventative maintenance program for public spaces, guestrooms and equipment. All work request and preventive maintenance to be managed in Synergy.
  • Coordinate with other departments to maintain general conditions and adhere to safety, health standards and legal requirements set forth by hotel policy.
  • Recruit, interview, hire, train, and discipline engineering associates in coordination with the Director of Associate Services.
  • Assist in emergency situations as central communication center for the hotel.
  • Recommend capital budget projects, obtain bids, and oversee contractors for project execution. Manage special permits and licenses as required.
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of work by external vendors and contractors.
  • Maintain own and resort’s special permits and licenses as required by local, state and federal authorities.
  • Control schedules, staffing, and payroll for the Engineering team. Maintain personnel records, utility logs, and engineering records.
  • Follow all company safety and security policies and procedures; report accidents, injuries, and unsafe work conditions; complete safety training and certifications.
  • Follow all company policies and procedures; ensure clean uniform and professional personal appearance; maintain confidentiality of proprietary information; protect company assets.
  • Ensure adherence to quality expectations and standards; identify, recommend, develop, and implement new ways to increase organizational efficiency, productivity, quality, safety, and/or cost-savings.
  • Responsible for scheduling and facilitating monthly department meetings.
  • Effectively coach and counsel associates as needed and complete performance evaluations.
  • Attend all company required training.
  • Champion the Omni / Power of One / Power of Engagement culture.

Qualifications

 

  • Must possess expert knowledge in all of the following areas with the ability to diagnose, repair and make recommendations for changes: boilers, pumps, HVAC, electrical, motors, computerized control systems, refrigeration systems, kitchen equipment, domestic water systems, heating and cooling loops systems, guest room A/C.
  • Minimum of seven years of hotel management experience in a luxury hotel/resort environment
  • College degree in business, hotel & restaurant management or equivalent preferred
  • Bi-lingual preferred
  • Demonstrated results-oriented management skills with a proven track record in mentoring and leading a successful team
  • Ability to budget and forecast productivity and direct expenses with strong financial acumen
  • Ability to establish and maintain relationships with vendors, the community and organizations
  • Excellent technical skills; must be detail-oriented, extremely organized and punctual
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Flexible schedule to include weekends and holidays

 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear.  The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit.  The employee must be able to move, bend, lift, carry, push, pull and place objects of moderate to heavy weight without assistance.  Employee will stand or walk for extended periods or for an entire work shift.  The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and climb or balance.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

 

 

Pay Range: $130,000-$160,000

The pay scale provided is a range that Omni Hotels & Resorts reasonably expects to pay. Actual compensation offered may fluctuate based on a candidate’s qualifications and/or experience
