Job Description

A Retail Software System Administrator manages and supports a company's retail-specific IT systems, ensuring their availability, security, and performance for store operations, eCommerce, and back-office functions. Key responsibilities include managing user accounts and permissions, performing software installations and updates, monitoring system health, troubleshooting issues, implementing security measures, and supporting store-level hardware and software across potentially distributed locations. A strong understanding of retail software, databases, networking, scripting, and excellent communication skills are essential for this role.

 

This position is based in Dallas, TX at the Corporate Office.

 

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities


• System Management: Oversee the installation, configuration, and maintenance of retail software, including point-of-sale (POS), and eCommerce platforms.
• User Support: Provide technical support to retail staff and other employees, troubleshooting software issues and assisting with system usage.
• Security & Compliance: Implement and enforce security policies, manage user access, perform regular backups, and ensure compliance with data security standards.
• Performance Monitoring: Monitor system health, identify potential performance bottlenecks, and analyze system resource consumption to ensure smooth operation.
• Inventory & Asset Management: Maintain an inventory of hardware and software assets, ensuring they are up-to-date and functioning correctly.
• Updates & Upgrades: Plan and execute software and hardware upgrades to keep systems current and secure.
• Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve technical issues related to hardware, software, and network connectivity across distributed retail locations.

Key Skills & Qualifications

  • Technical Expertise:
    • Experience with retail-specific software (Yellowdog).
    • Proficiency in managing databases, servers, and networks (MS SQL and LAN/WAN).
    • Familiarity with operating systems (e.g., Microsoft Server).
    • Knowledge of automation and scripting languages (Python, PowerShell) for task automation.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong aptitude for identifying issues and developing effective solutions in a fast-paced retail environment.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to explain technical concepts to non-technical users and collaborate with other teams.
  • Customer Service: Ability to handle pressure and provide timely, effective support to store staff and other employees.
  • Organizational Skills: Detail-oriented approach to managing data, system configurations, and software installations.
  • Typical Work Environment
    • Often involves sitting for extended periods at a desk and using office equipment.
    • Requires being on call and working evenings or weekends to ensure continuous operation of systems and to address critical issues.
    • May involve travel to support geographically distributed retail locations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science OR minimum of 3 years of relevant IT experience preferred
  • Preferred Experience: Oracle | Micros POS | Resortsuite | SpaSoft | Agilysys
  • Knowledge in hardware troubleshooting and software installation
  • Project Management Experience
  • Good verbal/written communication skills
  • Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
