Job Description

To creatively up sell all hotel customers and to ensure that value paid is value received, not only in product, but in service and in ambiance.

Responsibilities

  • Sell to the local, social Catering market with an emphasis on the wedding industry. Prospective clients will include fundraising galas, wedding ceremonies and receptions, rehearsal dinners, post-wedding brunches, and other social events.
  • Communicate with clients to initiate, negotiate, and close contracts.
  • Build relationships with local clientele and industry vendors to maximize revenue potential within the local social market.
  • Maximize Catering revenues from social bookings wherever possible, through upselling techniques and minimize erosion of check averages from price-sensitive groups. Communication of function-arrangement to all responsible hotel departments.
  • Communicate with clients prior to events to initiate, negotiate, and close contracts for all catered functions.
  • Creation of profitable, customized menus and distribution of client expectations to Food & Beverage Departments.
  • In addition to sales responsibilities, will be responsible for servicing social bookings.
  • Servicing responsibilities include: finalizing all logistics and menu details; communicating all arrangements to the responsible hotel departments through creation of Banquet Event Orders, floor plans/diagrams; coordinating catering support services; being on-site as needed; assist Event Concierge Team; double-check all function arrangements against specifications of client; make corrections as necessary; and meet with clients face-to-face during event.
  • Research and cost out new menu items, assist rooms salespersons in closing contracts.
  • Client contract and effective communication to ensure client satisfaction.
  • Other duties as assigned by Director of Catering

Qualifications

  • Position requires a minimum of one year progressive Catering experience and one year hotel sales experience. Large convention hotel experience strongly preferred.
  • College degree preferred.
  • Candidate must have proven leadership skills and must be able to delegate, effectively train, develop and motivate staff.
  • Must have proven selling, negotiating and presentation skills. 
  • Ability to communicate with guests and be able to direct/escort them to the various facilities and functions within the Hotel. 
  • Must be conversant with culinary techniques and food creativity. Knowledgeable in banquet set-ups and creativity in room decorations. 
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages. 
  • Ability to work cohesively with co-workers both within and outside of your department 
  • Ability to think clearly, quickly and make concise decisions 
  • Ability to work well under pressure, dealing with many guest requests/questions within a short period of time 
  • Highly developed customer service skills; possessing a friendly approachable demeanor and strong problem-solving abilities, with a keen eye for detail  
  • Ability to clearly and pleasantly communicate both verbally and in writing in English with guests, management and co-workers, both in person and by telephone.
  • Developed computer proficiencies with ability to accurately input information into computer systems. Delphi experience required.
  • The ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends and holidays.
  • The ability to stand/walk for extended periods of time. The ability to lift up to 40 lbs and push/pull/carry up to 50lbs.
